Meet Shelby Lutz
About Mrs. Shelby
My name is Shelby, my husband Aj and I have made our home in Cave Creek, Arizona with our roping horses, three dogs, 4 year old son Riggin and twin boys Rhett and Radley. We have a deep rodeo background: I was a second-generation rodeo queen and former Miss Rodeo Oregon. AJ is a retired bullfighter for the PRCA but still remains a competitive team roper on the Turquoise Circuit. When we aren’t roping and riding, AJ runs a successful hauling company with routes throughout the west, and I love to teach. I have a degree in Human Development and Family Science from Oregon State University and a Masters Degree from George Fox University. I have taken my love for teaching to 2 continents and 4 states. I have taught all ages from Kinder to 7th grade in a span of 10 years. I truly enjoy the fun of learning! I started 4L Learning with just an idea and faith in God, and I am thrilled to get started with you!

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Lutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
During my time as a teacher I thrived in helping students achieve their “ah-ha” moments and enjoyed all aspects of putting my 6 year education to great use. However, the salary as a teacher was detrimental to my life outside of the classroom. I knew I wanted my life to be centered on helping students and to continue that passion, but I also wanted a life outside of the classroom with my husband and son. My first thoughts to starting a business that could combine both dreams is where it all began. I wanted to work less hours, with higher salary, with the flexibility to be with my husband and son. It seemed impossible, but I am thriving in the change.

4L Learning is an online private homeschool program for rodeo students. It promotes a positive learning environment while cultivating a supportive and strong community among students, families and teachers.
4L Learning focuses on grades 1st – 8th and has partnered with another school JML Learning for 9th – 12th grades. Together we help to create a learning experience that affects academic success while allowing students to pursue their passions outside the classroom.
